MINUTES OF THE COMMISSION MEETING

At 10:03 a.m., the regular monthly meeting of the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) was called to order by Chairman Miller. Commissioner David Reynolds was absent and Mark Brown was not present.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on October 26, 2011 were approved unanimously.

A discussion ensued regarding 2012 Thoroughbred Race Days. It was moved by Commissioner Sarge Reynolds to accept the request of Colonial Downs regarding race days for 2012. Thirty-two (32) days of thoroughbred racing from Saturday, June 2 to Saturday, July 28, 2012. The schedule will be Thursday through Sunday with racing four (4) days per week with some exceptions. Post-times on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays will be at 7 pm and at 1 pm on Sundays. Saturday, June 2, 2012, Strawberry Hill Races at 1 pm; Tuesday, July 3 and Saturday, July 28; Colonial Turf Cup, June 9 and the Virginia Derby is scheduled for July 21. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Siegel and unanimously approved.

A discussion ensued regarding 2012 Standardbred Race Days. A decision regarding Standardbred race days was deferred until the January meeting of the Commission. The contract between Colonial Downs and the VHHA expired on December 31, 2011 and was extended until January 17, 2012.

The request by the VTA regarding Amendments to Chapter 130 was also deferred until the January meeting.

The Commission moved to approve the renewal of ADW licenses contingent upon application renewal by staff. Staff is at liberty to extend the current licenses for another 30 days, if necessary.

During public participation, Barbara Perry expressed her views regarding horseracing at Colonial Downs.

There being no further business, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. was set as the date and time of the next meeting to be held at Horsemen’s Building, 10700 Horsemen’s Road, New Kent, VA. The meeting was then adjourned.
